How do I check my power supply to see if it is putting out the right voltage? Article Number: 279
- You will need a voltage meter in order to check your power supply/transformer.
- Following are some of the more common power supplies and their expected readings:
- TE5 Check the red and blue wires (pins 1 & 2) and
- then check the brown and yellow wires (pins 3 & 5).
- In both cases you should get somewhere between 16 – 19.5 VAC.
- The TE2 and TE3 transformers are referred to as "center-tap" units.
- You first check the voltage for the two solid color wires;
- then check each of those separately using the wire with the red stripe.
- The two solid colored wires should give you a reading somewhere between 24 – 26 VAC.
- Checking each of the solid ones individually against the one with the stripe should give you a reading that is ½ of the reading just taken with the two solid color wires. For instance, if you get 26 VAC when checking the two solid colored wires, then you should get 13 VAC when you check them individually against the one with the stripe.
