[MT series 2-wire][MT-700 series][MT-800 series][MT-D5][MT-D5S] - Audio Issue troubleshooting stages
Last Updated 5 years ago

If you are not getting audio at the monitor there are a few steps to follow that can help resolve this. Often enough, the issue is resolved as follow:

  1. Adjust all knobs at the side or bottom of the monitor (based on monitor model) so as to have your software volume, brightness, and contrast button at the mid-way (halfway) position. This way, you ensure to not have the button set to the lowest settings. The half way mark will be loud enough as is.
  2. If step #1 fails, then, ensure the hardware volume adjuster at the back of the monitor is set at the mid-point settings. There should be no reason for adjusting this button first as you could cause communication at the door panel to be affected. The half way mark should be sufficient.
  3. If this failed also to bring the ringtone and audio at the monitor, let try to reset the ringtone as this option may need to be turned ON. Here is the process:
    1. To change the Ringtone or Turn ON the audio, press and hold Talk until you hear your current ringtone, then press Alarm to cycle through the different tones, then press Talk to save.
  4. If this fails, look at the back of the monitor again for the DIP code, make sure 7 is ON, and ensure DIP code 6 remains OFF.
  5. Last but not least, take the voltage reading of the monitor. we are looking to read no less than 24vDC~. If the reading is less, then we will need to adjust the voltage output at the MT-PS to compensate the voltage drop at the monitor by adding it to the voltage output. Example, if the monitor reads 23vDC but the MT-PS is reading 24vDC; add +1 to the MT-PS to become 25vDC so the monitor reaches 24vDC to fully function. You can take the monitor directly to the MT-202 monitor bus to see how it performs by by-passing the branch controller MT-2-4.

If all that fails, you can swap a working monitor in to see is the problem follows the monitor rather be located at the connects and wiring. It is rare the issue is at the wire. At which point, once confirmed the monitor is the issue, we can process an RMA for the warranty replacement of the monitor.
